Quality assured hand built quality

Everything that goes into the C50 wheelset is built in-house at our facility. From the carbon lay-up to the molding and finishing to the spoke lacing and final hand torquing. Unlike the competition every step of this process is built the artisan way by wheel builders. We don’t use automated processes or mass-production wheel building machines.

Wheel passport

Due to our extensive QC program on each and every wheel built by us its has allowed us to include with every Saturae wheelset a unique passport code. This details every step of the C50’s build including all the information from our master wheel builders including spoke and wheel tension. This means we can track every element of the wheelset for its lifespan. That allows us to offer class leading warranty and crash replacement services.

Powerful braking performance

We’ve tested and evaluated plenty of carbon clinchers through our development process and seen good and bad results. Carbon braking surfaces can suffer from excess heat build-up with sometimes devastating effects. These include tyre blow-outs and in the worst case scenario rim failure. So here at Saturae we’ve concentrated our efforts in developing a heat-disapating brake track and a special rim tape developed to cope with extreme heat and not allow that heat to transfer into the tyre and tube thus preventing the chance of blow-outs. For this reason we only recommend our wheels to be used with the Saturae Pro rim tape included with every wheelset.


With our own in-house wheel testing centre we have been able to simulate extended life cycles of the C50’s alongside epic marathon rides over a multitude of surfaces. But we haven’t stopped at just simulation, over the last 18 months of the wheels development we’ve had test riders in Europe, Australia, the US and the UK putting thousands of kilometres into our test program in real world conditions. Only after we and our testers were fully satisfied have the wheels been made available.

Sprint or Sportive?

We understand that different riders are looking for different things, our aero-optimised 50mm deep rim shape will benefit the TT rider or road racer in competition. But if your challenge is that epic Gran Fondo or Sportive then the C50 will suit you too. The aero benefits will allow you to make the most of your energy and the ride quality that only comes from a handbuilt wheel makes the C50 a truly comfortable wheelset too.


Some full carbon wheelsets are produced for ultimate stiffness, the problem here is that a wheel that offers no-compliance at all won’t offer the ride any comfort and through fast corners the C50 stays smooth and won’t skip or buck like a super rigid wheelset is prone to.
Thats because our wheels are built by hand in the traditional way, they won’t flex laterally but we’ve tuned in just enough compliance to keep you comfortable on epic days in the saddle.

Hub design & FONA bearings

We’ve combined a lightweight Magnesium Alloy hub shell with our own Roller bearing system. We call it the FONA system our rollers are sealed against the elements and unlike traditional cartridge bearings the smoothness means they feel like your floating on air.


When it comes to quality spokes then Swiss made DT’s are hard to beat. Its what our wheel builders have recommended so thats what we’ve used. Every pair of Saturae C50’s is laced with quality Stainless steel spokes from DT Swiss. To make maintenance easier we’ve designed the C50’s with standard external spoke nipples. We could have hidden them to save you at 10th of a watt in the wind tunnel but we’d rather you had a wheel thats easy to maintain, and easy to service and repair at our approved Saturae dealers*.
